Linden Middle Stats & Grades

According to the 2007 Report Card issued by the Tennessee Dept. of Education, Linden Middle School is in "good standing" and meets all benchmarks of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.

Average daily membership in the reporting period was 227 students.  Of that total, 94.8% were white, 2.8% were African-American, 2% were Hispanic, and .4% were Native American or Alaskan.

Economically disadvantaged children were numbered at 137, or 61.7%.

The student population was 44% and 56% female and male, respectively.

NCLB benchmarks were met in all testing areas: math, and reading/language arts/writing.

Attendance at Linden Middle School was 94.8%, higher than the state goal of 93%.

Academic achievement grades, based on TCAP testing, were as follows:

• math, "B," below the state average of "A;"
• reading/language arts, "B," equal the state average;
• social studies, "C," an improvement from the 2006 grade of "D," but below the state average of "B;"
• science, "C," below the state average of "B."

TCAP schores in math, reading/language, and science showed no change from the 2006 testing.

The fifth grade writing grade was "A," an improvement from 2006, and equal to the state average.  Eighth grade's writing grade was "B," down from the 2006 grade of "A," and below the state average of "A."

Promotion rate at Linden Middle was 92.7%, considerably lower than the state average, 97%.

Twenty-two suspensions were reported for the year; of that number, four were African-American, six were female and 16 were male.  There were no expulsions.

The percentage of courses taught by "highly qualifiede teachers" was 93.4%, which translates to four courses not taught by highly qualified teachers.

Linden Middle serves students in grades five through eight.
