TROLLEY ADDED THIS YEAR TO BUFFALO RIVER SPRINGFEST 2010
Lewis County High Lady Panthers to Vie for Girl’s Softball Crown
In an effort to attract more neighboring county visitors this Spring to Perry County on Saturday, March 20, Lobelville Mayor Robby Moore announces that there will be a free trolley “shuttle” running all day between Lobelville’s Buffalo River Springfest and Linden’s Blooming Arts crafts show.
“The Perry County Express Trolley, coming out of Nashville, will have one stop at the county courthouse in Linden, and the one at the new Lobelville City Hall,” explained Cristal Odom, with the town of Lobelville. “The trolley will unload all of its passengers in one town, then load up with new passengers headed to the other, running from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM.” The towns are approximately twelve miles apart, and both in close proximity to Hickman County.
Buffalo River Springfest 2010, is anchored by a 2-day, six team, double-elimination girl’s high school softball tournament including participants Hickman County and East Hickman. There is also a $100 first-prize open horseshoe tournament, and both tournaments will take place at Lobelville’s City Park.
Schedule-wise, Lewis County girls play the winner of Friday night’s East Hickman versus Mt. Pleasant game, on Saturday morning, March 20 @ 9:00 AM. It is free admission to all games and as the Buffalo River Springfest softball tournament is a double-elimination tournament, Lewis County High girls will play at least twice.
“Visitors to Perry County will be able to shuttle back and forth between our two towns on Saturday, March 20th, and enjoy the free ride aboard the just-named Perry County Express Trolley,” boasted Mayor Moore, who also directs the Bank of Lewis County, one of Springfest’s Lewis County sponsors, along with State Farm Insurance agent Joseph Rooker.
“I’m happy to do my part to support the Springfest softball tournament and hope our Lewis County girl’s team brings home the trophy,” declared Rooker.
The Buffalo River Springfest and Lobelville will be holding a “sneak-a-peek open house” on March 20, to allow an early glimpse at the new City Hall and Library on Main Street. An official “Grand Opening” for the Lobelville City Hall and Library will happen later this Spring, when the brand new facilities are totally completed and functional. “It’s not all finished quite yet, but will be almost all done, and we’re anxious to show it off,” added a proud Mayor Moore.
In addition to Lewis County, teams from McEwen, Mt. Pleasant, Hickman County, East Hickman and host Perry County, will compete for the Buffalo River Springfest 2010 High School Girl’s Softball Tournament title. The Buffalo River Springfest is the only invitational tournament in the state that does not require the participating high school teams to pay an entry fee. It is also the only high school tournament that does not charge an admission fee for attending patrons and fans.
The Buffalo River Springfest horseshoe tournament is open to all persons, male or female, teen-aged and older, and will commence at noon. There is no entry fee, with sign-ups onsite prior to noon on Saturday. Accelerated scoring will be used for this double-elimination horseshoe tournament.
Music on Main Street for the Buffalo River Springfest and Lobelville’s City Hall/Library open house will include classic hits band Daze For Days (featuring Cody Brooks of the Brooks Brothers), hit Nashville songwriter and Jim Sales, jazz/pop guitarist John Richards, Cajun favorite Les Kerr, blues singer Little Johnny Kantreed and husband/wife Top 40 duet, The DanBerry Plantation.
Each of the softball games will feature media celebrity guest PA announcers, who won’t be doing actual play-by-play, but rather making comments on the action and filling in with fun announcements. The announcer schedule is yet to be completed, but some are already confirmed, such as afternoon sports talk dean George Plaster, from 104.5 The Zone, who will be calling the game for the 11:00 AM match-up. Lobelville’s activities and events on Saturday, March 20 will also feature plenty of outdoor grilled concessions and fun for the kids.
